About Tron: Legacy, exclusive interview with producers:

“TRON: Legacy” is a 3D high-tech adventure set in a digital world that’s unlike anything ever captured on the big screen. Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), a rebellious 27-year-old, is haunted by the mysterious disappearance of his father Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), a man once known as the world’s leading video-game developer. When Sam investigates a strange signal sent from the old Flynn’s Arcade—a signal that could only come from his father—he finds himself pulled into a digital world where Kevin has been trapped for 20 years. With the help of the fearless warrior Quorra (Olivia Wilde), father and son embark on a life-and-death escape across a visually stunning cyber universe.

“TRON: Legacy” is rated PG and opens in theaters on December 17, 2010 in Disney Digital 3D™, Real D 3D and IMAX® 3D.

A few months ago, we showed you some of the toys, special videogame controllers, boots, and other merchandise that was on the way for TRON: Legacy.  But that was just a taste.  Disney has now revealed an onslaught of clothes, jewelry, and other fashion items for the upcoming film.  Designers include Adidas, Oakley, Hurley, New Era, Han Cholo, Roteneir, and more.  The items available range from simple t-shirts to $795 “Quorra Couture Platform Sandals” to a full motorcycle suit to my favorite item: “Clu Hobo Bag”.  It’s just a regular looking bag, but the official name for it is “Clu Hobo Bag”.  That’s why I must have it, $478 price tag be damned. Huge image gallery of TRON: Legacy related merchandise.  The film, directed by Joseph Kosinski, stars Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, Michael Sheen, Bruce Boxleitner, and Jeff Bridges.  TRON: Legacy opens in 3D on Decemeber 17th:

GET FUTURISTIC TRON SKATEBOARDING & TRON: LEGACY SKATEBOARD

Old-time skaters ENESS jumped at the chance to bring skateboarding into the future by blending interactivity and high-tech mastery for the Tron Legacy premiere.

Each rider is equipped with an ipod and our custom-built app to measure their air time and trigger graphics whilst in the air and on landing.

A custom ramp was fabricated from steel to support a floating platform.

The infamous ENESS skaters went sci-fi at the ‘Tron Legacy’ premiere. Looking at the video, if I were a skater, I would never pass up the opportunity to ride the ramps with amazingly cool light effects.

Made to look like a fantastical Tron world, the illuminated skate ramps are absolutely epic. Watch the video above to see the ENESS skaters take the premiere by storm with their sci-fi skateboarding – VIA TRENDHUNTER

Undoubtedly one of 2010’s most anticipated films, Disney’s TRON: Legacy finally hit cinemas earlier today. This video was created by Andrew Dorn from scenes captured at the premiere and is accompanied by music from Galapagoose. The event saw Will Hine, Harley Powell, Alexi Dowley and Jay Huggins skate up and down a small half pipe that was fitted with interactive lighting software, keeping in theme with the technologically advanced motion picture.

That was awesome, but how about  Freerider Skatecycle? It is an awesome product all on its own.  Combine that with what’s likely to be one of the biggest movies of the year and you get something epic: the Tron Skatecycle.

Created by Alon Karpman of Brooklyn Workshop, the custom-built skateboard is actually a Freerider, modded to sport the colors and lights of the movie’s signature Lightcycles.    The results are impressive, to say the least — enough to give modding-incapable Tron nerds some serious geek-envy.

If Alon was looking for a way to drum up interest in the Freerider (which is slated to ship end of January), this Tron-inspired mod definitely does it good.  The Tron Skatecycle is actually built in much the same way as his usual hubless two-wheeled self-propelling board — it has a solid aluminum frame and composite body parts, with 32 x 6.5 x 8.5-inch dimensions.  Of course, it sets itself apart by sporting a darker finish (to hide itself in the dark) and circles of light to get a similar look to the futuristic crotch rockets they ride in the movie.

With costumes, toys and full-sized motorcycles bearing the likeness of both the characters and the vehicles in the movie having come out already, we imagine the first-day screening of Tron Legacy to be downright nuts, with people likely donning their best merchandise on display.  That’s why I’m staying home on the 17th and waiting till next week to see it.    Yeah, I’m that guy who doesn’t enjoy your shameless geekery. Does that actually make a jealous closet geek? VIA COOLTHINGS

7.) BMW Gina Philosophy:

The BMW GINA Light Visionary Model has finally been revealed, and the futuristic design study shows how BMW designers are thinking outside of the box when it comes to the materials that make up a car and also how the car relates to the driver. GINA stands for “Geometry and Functions in ‘N’ Adaptations”, which basically means that designers from both BMW and BMW Group DesignworksUSA were allowed to throw out the rulebook. This is most evident in the GINA Light Visionary Model’s outer skin, which is made entirely out of textile fabric that’s pulled taut around a frame of metal and carbon fiber wires. The skeleton of the car is controlled by electro-hydraulic devices and can actually move and change shape beneath the fabric skin. For instance, the headlights of the concept can be exposed or hidden by the car’s skin just like blinking eyes, and the hood opens from the center as the fabric parts to expose the engine. This idea extends to the interior, where BMW designers have made visible only those instruments that are required at a certain time, while the rest of the time the same fabric interior “blinks” them out of view. The car itself looks somewhat like a Z4 Roadster, though after viewing the extensive gallery of high-res images below, you’ll be amazed how much the outer skin looks like normal sheetmetal. Until, that is, you see how the doors open. They lift up in a semi-scissor fashion and since there are no exposed hinges, the fabric artfully binds up as the door swings open. While the design of the GINA Light Visionary Model is very Bangle-esque with concave and convex surfaces intermingling everywhere you look, it looks appropriate and natural here. The car is very much a concept, meant more to inspire BMW’s own designers and engineers rather than excite the public, but now we’re excited about shape-changin, fabric-covered cars, anyway. and P.S. One of futuristic music pioneers – Trendsetter aka Mark Holiday, produced exclusive music for this commercial. It is done in authentic electro / techno style.
